Error 9997

Recently moved from Windows Audacity (no issues) to Mac (Big Sur). It constantly crashes and I get a “error 9997” message. Further I have to rescan my device for the program to see my mic. Very disappointing. Any help is appreciated

That error means invalid sample rate: make sure that you have matched the sample rate in Audacity with that set on your device - both for playback and recording.

What version of Audacity? What version of macOS? What “mic”?

I have exactly the same problem. I am using MacBookAir with BigSur 11.5.2 (20G95).
USB PnP Audio Device:
Product ID: 0x0811
Vendor ID: 0xe5b7
Version: 1.00
Serial Number: 20160823
Speed: Up to 12 Mb/s
Manufacturer: ZhuHai JieLi Technology
Location ID: 0x14100000 / 1
Current Available (mA): 500
Current Required (mA): 400
Extra Operating Current (mA): 0

No matter what sampling rate I choose I get the same error code.

Please help me fix this problem.

Which version of Audacity? (Look in “Audacity menu > About Audacity”).

Is that a “Super USB cassette” thing or similar? Like, a $40 cassette-to-USB device? If so, we have not found anyone who has got one of those devices to work reliably with Mac.

Same and it’s really bumming me out.
Audacity 3.0.3
MacOS 11.5.2
Notice how the error says

"type": "os",
"name": "Macintosh",
"version": "10.16.0"

Also, under Diagnostics>Audio Device Info, there are no “Supported Rates” listed for any devices, input nor output.
Hint?

I have the same problem::

The answer is replace the player. If you have a formal music system, the best bet is a stereo USB adapter between that and your computer.

That’s a Behringer UCA-202. A better possibility is the ART series of adapters such as the Phono Plus.

You’ll have to juggle some to get the USB type to come out right.

I responded with a question: what “mic”? In other words, what microphone (make and model) are you trying to use and how is it connected to your Mac?
