Need help. El Capitan 10.11.1 and Soundflower 1.6.6 Audacity 2.1.1 crashing. I have not been able to record since updating to El Capitan. Discarded audacity.cfg. No good results. Am I missing something here? Any others with same issues? Please let me know.
Am I missing something here?
Audacity doesn’t support El Capitan?
Scroll to System Requirements.

Do you know if there plans for OS X 10.11 (El Capitan) development for Audacity software?
Win10 has the same problem. I Believe Audacity 2.1.2 should support both. (I’m not a developer).
Koz
Audacity 2.1.1 and later do support El Capitan. The system requirements for 2.1.1 stop at OS X 10.10.x because at the time 2.1.1 was released, El Capitan had not yet been released and was an unknown quantity.
Audacity 2.1.1 requirements similarly did not mention Windows 10 because Windows 10 had not yet been released, and because although we suspected there would be problems, we were not clear what they might be.
Audacity 2.1.2 will support Windows 10, but with a serious proviso that all enabled devices must have Windows 10-compatible drivers designed for the device, or Audacity might not see any audio devices at all. PortAudio has a possible fix for this so I expect us to update PortAudio as soon as possible after 2.1.2 is out.
Are you sure 2.1.1 is crashing because of Soundflower 1.6.6? I suspect that is not the cause. Please open /Applications/Utilities/Console.app then look at the System Diagnostic Reports. Attach the latest Audacity crash report from there. Please see here for how to attach files: https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/how-to-attach-files-to-forum-posts/24026/1
You are correct that Soundflower 1.6.6 does not work in El Capitan. See Tutorial - Recording Computer Playback on Mac for what you need to do, which in short is to make a copy of “Soundflowerbed” that came with Soundflower 1.6.6, use the “Uninstall Soundflower.scpt” to uninstall Soundflower 1.6.6, then install Soundflower 2.0b2.

Thanks Gale,
Here is may console log from latest run. After successfully unpacking the 2.0b.2 version of Soundflower…

Also tell us exactly what you do from launching Audacity, step by step, until Audacity crashes.
Gale
I’ve attached a Word document since I could not locate the file other than using Console.
As far as Audacity actions, I launch Audacity, click monitor to see signal, then Record… it then stops abnormally.
Hope this helps find the problem. Thanks for your concern.
There is nothing attached. If the report says “spinlock” in the crashed thread, and from your description below, we probably don’t need to see it.
Is Transport > Sound Activated Recording enabled? If so that may well crash in 2.1.1. That bug is fixed now in our source code. If you want to use Sound Activated Recording I recommend you try “Audacity Mac OS X 2.1.2 RC1 DMG (for testing)” posted on Audacity download latest version.
If you are not using Sound Activated Recording, you may need to stick to recording one track only, and don’t have more than one project window open at a time. When you have recorded the one track, export it, Audacity > Quit Audacity and restart Audacity. That may make it more stable.
Gale
Gale,
Re-installed Audacity per your instructions… all is OK. Many thanks for your help. Sound activation does not work, but it isn’t necessary.
Thanks again for all your assistance.
I’ll close and lock this given I understand you can now record from Soundflower.
If you receive more Audacity crashes, please start a new topic with as much detail as you can.
