ECHO recording voice on track 2 over inst. music

FIRST-TIME USER…

I am composing with FINALE 27, exporting as .wav files, Importing those into Audacity, then recording my voice over that music, then saving the mixes as Mp3 files.

It actually worked…ONCE! on my second song, It does NOT record my voice at all on MONO, and DELETES MY Instrumental track as I record .

WHen I try to record on Stereo Iitdoes what I want (records MY VOICE on a second track, keeping the original track) , BUT I hear a bad echo in the head phones! UNUSBLE.

THe ***** of it is, I made my first recording all OK. I changed NOTHING between

attempts.

WHat I need is a step-by-step seqence of EVERY *** button I have to push,… pretend I’m a Martian who speaks English…

going insane with frustration … ANY IDEAS???

PS.. I took couses in Audio recording back in the 1970s!!! Waaaaay pre-digital…

THANKS, ANYONE
