I’ve tried several times and have researched it extensively as well: but downloading Audacity for free appears to be a false proposition. AUDIO.COM is a forced purchase in order to download Audacity. Sorry folks but it appears to be a classic bait and switch ploy. I miss the old Audacity that would allow the user to find the site quickly and without forced purchases of services that are unwanted. I miss the old Audacity. I hope one day they will bring it back.

And, it seems, you are not alone in that sentiment. You can get old versions here if you know what version you want: Old Audacity versions download.
Highly unlikely!
Hope you find the version that suits you and your way of working.

You can download the latest version of Audacity without any adverts, pop-ups or unwanted additional software from either of these pages:
The first is an “official” download location. The second is unofficial, but FossHub was our official content delivery network for many years (our “trusted distribution partner”) before Muse Group took over Audacity.
Thanks but what I am referring to is not so much an older version of Audacity as I am looking for the time when Audacity as a platform and service was all around a better experience. Easier to locate their download link and with no strings attached. I appreciate your response. Thank you.
The “problem” is that if you click on the Big Yellow Download Button that says “Download Audacity 3.7.1”, and you are viewing the page from a Windows computer, it does not download the Audacity installer - it downloads the Muse Hub installer. The correct link for downloading Audacity is the text link below the Big Yellow Download Button. Personally I hate this kind of deception and think it reflects badly on Audacity.
Ah, I see what you mean Steve. I agree with you.
When Muse appeared I was a bit surprised but followed the instructions to download and install. Since then I’ve been able to completely ignore Muse/Audio.com and carry on just as I was before. Maybe it’s what I do with Audacity / how I use it. But I personally have not noticed a problem.
And as for “purchase” - I’ve not parted with any money AFAIK.
