hey i’m new here.
Just found a certain online audio conversion site (Z****r.com), seems i have to use this because the mp4 file will not open in Audacity newest version.
So i’m asking the forum do you trust these kinds of sites? And do you suggest and offline/application on the PC that I might use?
thanks.
Audacity should open a valid MP4 audio file (or extract the audio from an MP4 video file) if you add the FFmpeg library to your computer http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/faq_installation_and_plug_ins.html#ffdown .

hi
I’m using windows 8 and I’d rather using online tools for such things instead of downloading the related software for it.
but I personally and mostly trust the sites that have just the specific tools for what I want and the name of the site is reasonable for what it consists of.
And do you suggest and offline/application on the PC that I might use?
TAudioConverter can convert to/from many audio formats and is FREE and open source. ( But, I think it uses the same underlying ffmpeg CODECS as Audacity.)
As you may know, MP4 is lossy compression. If you are editing with Audacity (or any other standard audio editor), I recommend you decompress to WAV to avoid multiple lossy-to-lossy conversions. Then if you want to keep the MP4 (or other lossy format), convert/export back to MP4/AAC ONCE as the final step.
