I am using Windows 10 and I have some .mp3 files I want to edit, when I place them into Audacity to start, I always listen to what they sound like originally. So I listen to it normally, then I place it into Audacity and listen, but it is all distorted. The file went from a piece of music I recorded that I wanted to edit to an unedited file in Audacity that was an ear screeching piece of rubbish. How do I fix this bug? No matter what file type it is, .mp3, .wav or .aiff it is still distorted. I need to know, this music needs to be edited so I can put it on youtube!
Does the file also appear to be very short in Audacity?
Also you may have a bogus version of Audacity. See the pink panel at the top of the page.
If you have Audacity supplied by us and the track length is correct, are you aware that multiple tracks play mixed together in Audacity? If that’s the problem, press Solo on the track you want to hear on its own.

Yes. Yes it does…
How exactly are you getting the files into Audacity? “File menu > Import > Audio”?
Set Windows to show the file extension (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/show-hide-file-name-extensions#show-hide-file-name-extensions=windows-7). What is the full name (including the file extension) of one of the files that has this problem?
