Hi, I’m using Windows 10 and Audacity version 2.2.1.
I’m a first time user of this app.
I have an MP3 file with some distortion in it that I would like to remove.
Could someone provide some assistance or direct me to a link that explains how to remove distortion?

Maybe not in Audacity. Most causes of distortion produce forever damage. For example, we are warned not to record a live performance too loud because overload or clipping distortion is very obvious, irritating and permanent.
There is a line that we can sometimes turn distortion into different distortion, but not make it go away.
