Diminishing reverb from large room

I’m digitizing some cassettes made around 1970 of a band recorded in a large church room…the “echos” are causing some difficulty listening…

Is there any effect or anything that I can apply to diminish the echo or reverb…???
I’m certain I cannot eliminate it but if I could just cut it back a bit it would be helpful…

There are 3rd-party “de-verb” effects but I don’t know how well they work or which ones re compatible with Audacity.

DVDdoug…thanks…searching now…

30-day free trial on DeVerberate … DeVerberate, VST & AU plug-in for reverb reduction (de-reverberation) ( at $70 it’s overpriced IMO). Deverberate does work in Audacity 2 & 3.
The waves dereverb plugins are cheaper/better … Clarity™ Vx DeReverb – AI Vocal Reverb Removal - Waves Audio, I’ve not seen them work in Audacity though.

Thanks Trebor…I’m interested in the Clarity Vx DeReverb…read up on it and it seems like it is what I’m looking for…
HOWEVER…I’ve never used a “plugin”…how do I install it…and it this a separate program from Audacity or does it work within Audacity…???

Any help on using this apprecated…

I know Acon’s deverberate plugin works in Audacity, I’d try that first: you get to use it for 30-days for free. I’m not sure that the Waves plugins work in Audacity.

If you’re on Windows, download the plugin installer (.exe) file from the manufacturer, then run it, (double click on the exe file), when that’s completed, start Audcaity, the plugin should appear as a realtime effect.
