Digitising old cassettes

Hello all - I’m digitising old cassettes to a Mac. The cassettes may or may not have been originally recorded in stereo (I strongly suspect they were as they are genuine albums). Should I record in stereo via Audacity, or should I just use the mono set up?

Many thanks in advance for any advice.

If the objective is to replicate the listening-to-cassette experience, use stereo.
Even if the recordings are dual-mono, the tracks will not be identical,
the difference between them creates a pseudo-stereo effect.

Plus, if a defect only exists on one of the tracks, you can patch it with the same section from the other track.

Many thanks - much appreciated!
