Differences between Compressor factory presets for voice

Hello, everyone!

I make voiceovers for documentaries. Can somebody please tell me, what are the differences between Compressor factory presets designed for working with voice (how exactly each preset should affect a voice recording)? For example: “Lead Vocals”, “Fat Vocals”, “Power Vocals”, “Vocal Control”, “Podcast/radio”, “Vocal Touch-up”, etc. So far, I have found only a short description, which doesn’t give any details about the presets.

The “details” are shown in the settings and graph that change when you select a preset.

Of course, you need to understand what Dynamic Compression is.. In general it makes loud parts quieter and/or or quiet parts louder. In practice, it normally makes the loud parts quieter and then make-up gain is often used to bring-up the volume of everything making everything louder.

If you want to know how that affects the sound you just have to listen to get some experience.

FYI - Depending on what you’re trying to accomplish, limiting is a kind of fast-compression and with the Limiter there are fewer settings to mess with and because it’s faster you are less-likely to get side effects.

Thank you for the reply!)
By “details” I meant, first of all, something like small descriptions for the presets, without very complicated professional terms. Something like: “This preset is more suitable for high voices and will make them sound exceptionally rich”.
