Determining the peak volume of a recording (2.0.5)

So I’m doing a project for physics using sound suppression and need to get and specific number for my data. How can I determine the peak sound level (in decibels) of a sound clip in Audacity?

You can do it obliquely. Load the clip and Effect > Amplify, but don’t apply it. Just read the top number. The top number is the number of dB that the “performance” has to be amplified to reach the bottom number.

There is a plug-in available here: https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/peak-amplitude-analyze-plug-in/31723/1

So many thanks to you, sir. This is EXACTLY what I needed.
