I’m pretty useless with computers. I have been recording my LPs using my DENON 450USB into WAV files. But cuing the record caused some false starts. I just want to delete the false starts at the beginning of each LP. The rest of the LP recorded ok. 1.For windows11 what version Audacity should I get? 2.What function would I use in Audacity to delete the false starts? Also, some of the recordings have the sound of the needle lifting at the ending. Obviously I’m a newbie (:>)
This is as simple as selecting the unwanted portion of the wave file and pressing the delete key.
It is usually visually obvious what parts of the recording need to be removed.
It may be a little less obvious that you need to save the wav file using “export audio” rather than just saving the audacity project.
The latest version fully released will be version 3 and this is what you should use.
I also suggest downloading 3.7.7 (latest one) but watch out for the trap to try to get you to sign up to something you might not need. If you like having more than one option, also try out Ocenaudio, which is also free. Audacity uses its own project file format whereas Ocenaudio allows you to edit and save as WAV. It’s also faster, more stable and arguably easier to use but it has fewer features than Audacity. Horses for courses, really.
I see your turntable allows recording to a USB stick, a clever touch. I assume you will shove the stick in your Windows PC and edit it from there.
Thanks for the suggestion! As I said, I’m useless with computers, but I have a friend who uses Audacity to work with his downloaded LP music. I will ask him what he thinks of Ocean? Unfortunately he’s on Vacation right now. I’m always fearful of doing anything on my PC.
Thanks for the info! As I stated to MarkB I will wait to hear from my friend on what to do next. I don’t want to make a mistake. I has taken several hours to download 10 LP’s so far. I’m taking it slow. However I am impatient so I got on to this forum (:>) By the way, the DENON was defective and so was the USB stick. I got the replacement DENON and USB stick and then discovered that my NAD CD/USB player does not play WAV files. But WAV is “lossless”, so I decided to continue with WAVs.
No problem.
Oh dear, not the best starting point for doing something new, eh? I am hoping these YouTube videos might clarify things a bit:
There is also this section in the Audacity manual: Digitising LPs and tapes
Could you tell us a bit more about the NAD device so I can find out about it, please?
Thanks again, evilmrb! I’ll have to watch all the videos.
Lately I spend all my “spare” time watching youtube (:>)
Yep, I know the feeling!
I watch a lot of music videos. If you haven’t seen his videos, one Guy that’s quite good is Rick Beato, although I’m an older guy so it might not be to your taste.
I am an older guy too and it IS my taste.
That’s good news (:>) Most of my LPs are 60’s rock, plus most other categories. Beato has some great interviews.
