Hi there, I recorded a 6 hour mix using Traktor last night, it splits the files after 2Gb, I understand that, but when trying to join the two parts (which is irrelevant here) I dragged the wav into Audacity, it took a second, and I got an error message
I really wish I could remember. It was something about not being able to something, but I’d already tried playing the wav and it was fine. It’s now vanished and I’ve tried file retrieving software.
Something between dragging that wav to Audacity, getting an error message and a pretty fearful facial expression has lost a really, really good bit of work!
Audacity does not act directly on audio files. When a file is imported into Audacity, the data from the file is copied into Audacity. The original file is unchanged by Audacity.
My guess is that Audacity was complaining about the file being unreadable, or something like that. I can’t be more specific without knowing what the error message was.
I might be worth running a disk check in case your hard drive has a bad bit. The free version of “EaseUS Partition Master” is a popular tool for checking disks, or Google may make other suggestions. As we don’t know what the error message was, we can only guess.
