Damaged aup3 File

Hello,
I’m very new to the App. I accidentally saved my aup3 file in my inactive oneDrive folder. It was anyway working when i saved, closed and opened it a few times, but then suddenly it didn’t anymore. I tried to move the file into another folder, tried opening it on another laptop and tried using the audacity project tools recovery thing, but i says: “unable to open database file”. I use Windows and the file contains 556 MB.
Can anyone help me? thank you !!

Look at the version history of the file and see if you can restore it to earlier. I understand you can do that to the whole OneDrive folder as well.

I will try. First of all, how technically-inclined are you? There is a bunch of tools that the Audacity team created for repairing databases but they are a bit tricky to use. I have managed to repair projects for about 6 or 7 people in the past using them. If the idea of doing that makes you want to run for the hills, please send me a PM and I will send some details for getting the file to me. Obviously, I cannot guarantee it will work but I will have a go.

Update - sorry, my mistake. I didn’t notice you’d said you tried the project tools already or I wouldn’t have suggested it. If I had a brain, I would be dangerous. It’s my age.

thanks for you reply. it tells me that there is no older version to be found. the folder doesn’t show an option for restoring

thank you, that would be super helpful because I know nothing about this stuff. Also i feel kind of stupid because I cannot find any option to send you a PM? how can I do that or can you write me one?

Is cloud storage …

And… I always recommend making WAV or FLAC backups whether you create a project or not. These formats are “simpler” and more robust than the database project file.

If you are recording, it’s a good idea to make a regular audio file immediately after recording. And perhaps intermediate files if you are working on a big project where you’d lose a lot of work if you have to start-over from the beginning.

And of course, it you are working on anything critical or important, keep multiple backups as you would with any important data.
