Hello,
Is it possible to cut an ad in an mp3 podcast with audacity and export it back to mp3 but without any loss of quality?
If this is possible can you tell me how to do it please?
Thank you
There will be very little loss in quality if you export the edited track as a high bit-rate MP3.
There will be virtually no loss in quality if you export the edited track as 16-bit WAV, AIFF or FLAC.
There will be no loss in quality if you export the edited track as 32-bit WAV, but many apps don’t support 32-bit WAV.
MP3directCut can do some limited MP3 editing without decoding and re-encoding.
MP3 gets its small, efficient files by rearranging sound tones and leaving some of them out. Sometimes, you can do simple cutting with a pure MP3 editor such as MP3 Cut and MP3 Direct Cut. But if you do anything that upsets the balance of sound tones (bass boost, noise reduction), file management has to make a whole new MP3 and leaves out even more sound tones. That’s where the additional sound damage comes from.
Most people expect a similar size sound file when they do MP3 editing. You can edit an MP3 and get a new one, but, as Steve above, you have to use a much higher quality number and get a much larger sound file.
Never do production in MP3. It’s time bomb with a lot of rules.

Hello,
Thank you for your answers.
I already know “Mp3DirectCup” but I do not find it really easy to use and not precise. I am trying with Mp3Cut but I don’t understand how to display the cutout screen.
When I click on the scissors icon, he wants me to install “MP3CutterJoiner” which is not free.
Can you help me or give me another software name please?
Thank you
Sorry but I’ve only used MP3DrectCut a couple of times so I’m not an expert and I also don’t find it easy to use, and the Audacity forum probably isn’t the best place to get help with it… If you click-on the “?” there is a help file.

That’s weird… I’m pretty sure the two programs are not related. I wonder if you got tricked into downloading the wrong program. When you download MP3directCut you should get a file named “mp3DC230.exe”.
Windows 10 wouldn’t let me install it in the default location (C:\Program Files (86)\MP3directCut) so I installed it in C:\Program Files (More)\mp3directCut. I had already created the “more” folder for these situations.
…The quality loss with a normal audio editor might not be noticeable but it’s something you should be aware of and ideally you should do all of your production in WAV (or other lossless formats) and if you want MP3, compress to MP3 once as the last step.
