Ctrl+Drag for vertical-only movement no longer seems to work

Windows 10
Audacity 3.0.2

The Time Shift Tool page of the manual states:

To prevent unwanted left or right movement while dragging, press and hold the > Ctrl > key while dragging.

However, when I do so, I get plenty of left/right movement, all of which is unwanted.

I’ve tried changing the order of the operations (i.e. Click-CTRL-Drag, Click-Drag-CTRL, CTRL-Click-Drag) to no avail. Is this a known issue? Is it a bug in the program? A bug in the manual? Or maybe I’m still somehow doing it wrong?

I searched for this issue in the forum (key: “vertical”) but didn’t see any mention of it.

I’m using the workaround of

  1. Select source clip
  2. Copy clip
  3. Deselect source track
  4. Use arrow keys and Enter to select target track
  5. Paste source clip
  6. Select and Delete original source clip

but it’d be nice just to be able to drag the clip vertically instead.

(Yes, I know I could save the last step by using Cut instead of Copy in step 2, but I’ve been using computers for a long time and have had power outages and crashes happen at extremely inopportune moments and I’d rather be certain I’m not going to lose the data than save a few seconds.)

It works fine for me with Audacity 3.1.3 (available here: https://www.audacityteam.org/download/)

Note that 3.1.3 does not require using the Time Shift Tool (there isn’t a Time Shift Tool).

Press and hold the Ctrl key, then, while holding the Ctrl key down, click and drag the audio clip by the “clip handle” (drag bar).

Okay, thanks. I’ll update my version and that should fix it, I guess.

Appreciate the response!
