I just downloaded Audacity 2.0.5 (dmg) and attempted to install and use it on my MacBook Pro, running OS 10.9.2. I followed the installation instructions in the install.txt file, and the suggestions for Macs running 10.7 and later. Every time, I get the error message “Critical nyquist files missing. Nyquist effects will not work.” There is an OK button in the error message box, but clicking it doesn’t work, and the rest of the app will not continue to load. The only way to quit it is to force quit. I then attempted to put the whole thing in the trash and empty the trash, and got the message, “Audacity cannot be deleted because it is in use.” I’m guessing this app hasn’t been updated for Mavericks. What can I do to get rid of it?
Audacity works on Mavericks if you install and run and run it correctly.
Please read these instructions carefully: https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/installation-do-not-run-audacity-from-the-dmg/31711/1 . Copy the whole Audacity folder (not just the Audacity application) from the DMG to /Applications.
Do not take the Audacity application out of its “Audacity” folder.
The Trash error may be because you still have the DMG mounted. Eject the DMG before trashing it.
