Crashing on export (3.6.4)

Hi. I’ve just installed 3.6.4 and now I’m having it crash every time I try to export the audio to AAC.

iMac 2019, Intel, Sonoma 14.7

I can’t down-version as it seems the file format has changed. Anyone have any ideas for a workaround while the problem is being investigated?

Export to AIF then use xAct to convert to AAC. Or use Apple Music to convert to AAC.

Thanks - I’ll try it and report back. Is this a known issue? To be fair I haven’t tried any other export format as I have always used AAC from Audacity.

FWIW I had no problem exporting to M4A (AAC) via FFmpeg.
Audacity 3.6.4, macOS 15.0, M1 MacBook.
Can export to other file formats that require FFmpeg, such as AC3 or WMA?

Hi. Thank you, you have identified the problem - it is export to FFmpeg that causes the crash. Not sure what next as Audacity is happy it can see the library.

Can you suggest a course of action please?

I have tried deleting the old FFmpeg libraries and starting the installation again with no change.
The library information in Audacity states:
F(59.16.100),C(59.18.100),U(57.17.100)

You have the correct version of FFmepg. I can’t reproduce the problem, so I’m afraid I have no insight on how to correct it.

In exasperation, I fully deleted both the Audacity and the ffmpeg installation. I restarted the Mac then started from scratch with Audacity, followed by ffmpeg and - it works! No idea what was going on but this is the first Audacity update that I have had trouble with over around 15years of use.

Anyway, many thanks for guiding me to the ffmpeg issue in the first place.
