Double click on the downloaded file to start the installation.
During the installation, look out for the option to “Reset Preferences” and ensure that option is selected.
On first run, confirm that you wish to reset Preferences, and if asked whether you want to “associate” Audacity “aup” project files, select “Yes”.
If you asked whether you want to “associate” Audacity “aup” project files, then selecting “Yes” should allow you to open Audacity projects by double clicking on the AUP file.
If you are not asked about associating project files, then we will need to fix that separately, so let us know how it goes and we’ll take it from there.
I resetted the prefrences but it did not say “If you asked whether you want to “associate” Audacity “aup” project files, then selecting “Yes” should allow you to open Audacity projects by double clicking on the AUP file.”
If the project does not open (it probably won’t) and if Windows asks which program to use (it probably will), then hopefully you will be able to select the newly installed Audacity application. The correct path to the Audacity application is: C:\Program Files (x86)\Audacity\audacity.exe
Click “OK” (ensuring that the option “Continue without deleting” is selected).
Hopefully the project will open with audio present. If it does, then:
“File menu > Save Project > Save Project As…” and save the project somewhere convenient (such as your “Music” folder) with a new and unique name.
Then close Audacity, and open the project that you have just saved.
If the project opens but there is no audio, then the project is broken and probably not repairable.
Just got my song back. Saved it as a project and exported it as an mp3. I love this support team! Saved me from losing my hard work and they reply fast! Tank you guys, you guys are life savers!
For any important work, it is highly recommended to always save a backup copy in WAV format. MP3 format always has a slight reduction in sound quality, whereas a WAV format export is virtually an exact copy. The downside to WAV files is that they are quite large, but drive space is cheap these days.
