Correctly import audio paired with variable frame rate video

Can Audacity properly import audio paired with variable frame rate video?

When I’m playing variable framerate videos, can Audacity use the ffmpeg library to properly decode and import the audio file so it doesn’t lose sync with the video file?

I know that Audacity’s volunteer programmers only focus on the audio, leaving the video to others. However, I can’t use the program properly right now because when the video file containing the audio is read, the audio file is read incorrectly, and the generated audio is out of sync. Couldn’t a function be implemented that, when audio from a video is imported, reads the video via fmpeg so that the audio file is also imported correctly? This issue is being reported by the user as a bug.

I would recommend you try doing this with DaVinci Resolve. It is a free program. It is both a video editor and has an audio editor called Fairlight within it.

There is a function in Resolve that will synchronize audio with video either by timecode, or by audio waveform.

Resolve has a huge, huge learning curve. I’ll warn you about that before you start.
