Copying left channel to right

I record either .MP3 or .WAV from a Zoom H1 microphone. All my recordings are saved in the left channel, so when I hear them with a headset, I only hear the left channel.

When I copy the files to Audacity, only the Left channel shows sound. How can I copy-paste the audio from the left channel to the right? I think you should make this more obvious by letting us choose only one channel with the mouse.

Thanks.

Isn’t the H1 stereo? How are you getting a single audio track out of it?

You can convert your existing tracks to Mono with the Drop-Down menus to the left of the track. Split stereo track to Mono. Delete the dead track.

Zoom H1 captures as mono sound, when you use an external microphone and not the built-in microphone.

“You can convert your existing tracks to Mono with the Drop-Down menus to the left of the track. Split stereo track to Mono. Delete the dead track.”

Sorry, you mean convert them to “Stereo”? Iam confused here.

I want to be able to hear the voice from both parts of the headphone, not only from left. Also, I don’t know how to copy-paste left channel to right. A screenshot would help with exact instructions (noob here).

A mono recording will play-back through both speakers.

Almost every playback system from analog records, tape, and FM radio, to computers & MP3 players & cell phones will do this. The exception is CDs which are always 2-channels so a mono CD has to contain duplicated information in both channels.

Use the Track Drop-Down Menu then choose “Split Stereo to Mono”. This gives you two mono tracks. Use the on the lower silent track to delete it. Then you will hear the sound through both earpieces.

That was the easy version, but if you insist on making double tracks: “Fake Stereo.”

Use the drop-down menu on the left and Split Stereo Tracks. [X] Delete the blank one.

Select the remaining one by clicking just above the MUTE button. Edit > Duplicate.

Go to the drop-down menus again and Make Stereo Track.

It will sound exactly like one track labeled MONO and will take up double the drive space to store, email and post it.
