Convert mp3 to WAV for CD [SOLVED]

I want to convert some mp3 files from the web into WAV files to burn onto Digital Audio CDs to play on elderly CD players.
It hasn’t worked reliably for me so far.
Audcaity version 2.0.6
Retrieving FFmpeg library version numbers:
06:52:10: AVCodec version 0x373466 - 55.52.102 (built against 0x373466 - 55.52.102)
06:52:10: AVFormat version 0x372164 - 55.33.100 (built against 0x372164 - 55.33.100)
06:52:10: AVUtil version 0x344264 - 52.66.100 (built against 0x344264 - 52.66.100)

Operating system Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit SP1

These are the steps I take:
Open mp3 file in Audacity
Change project rate to 44100 Hz
Export selected audio as wav file.
Open Windows Media Player (version 12.0.7601.18150)
either drag and drop from within WMP or drag and drop using My Computer to Burn Tab
Select Start burn
Put CD into player: either shows “no disc” or “00” or comes up a figure for the number of tracks and the length of the recording in minutes and seconds.
Sometimes it will play once and then not again: most times it won’t play at all. Thought I had cracked it and produced several discs but now none of them work.
I have tried two different CD players: they won’t play on either.

I attach a sample file which I have tried and it also fails.

All the CDs work OK in my PC.

Help please!

Have you read Burning Audio CDs ? Are you telling WMP to burn an audio CD? Are you using CD-R’s? Have you tried some CD-R’s from another part of the packet?

Gale

I have followed the advice on the burning CDs topic and I have used 16 of the 25 CDs in the packet with no success. They are maxell CD-R Music XL-11 80 Digital Audio CDs. I think I will try ripping a working CD and burning a track to one of the CDs to see if that works. That will be later today.

Took me longer to get around to than expected: but it looks like a box of duff CDs, as the experiment mentioned above fails to work. So its nothing to do with Audacity. Thank you for pointing me in a possible direction.
