I’m looking to upgrade from Audacity 2.1.3.0, presently installed on my legacy MacBook.
The ‘Legacy Mac’ page https://www.audacityteam.org/download/legacy-mac/ says “Please use the latest Audacity version http://audacityteam.org/download/mac for Mac OS X 10.6 and later.”
Further down on the same ‘Legacy Mac’ page, under ‘System Requirements’, it also says “The latest Audacity version http://audacityteam.org/download/mac requires Mac OS X 10.6 or later.”
However, on the ‘Download’ page, under ‘System Requirements’, it says that the latest version (2.3.2) is for Mac OS 10.7 and later: “Audacity is for Intel Macs running OS X 10.7 and later and macOS 10.12 Sierra, 10.13 High Sierra and 10.14 Mojave.”
The link to the disk image is labeled “Audacity 2.3.2 .dmg file” but it points to the previous version https://www.fosshub.com/Audacity.html/audacity-macos-2.3.1.dmg.
Can anyone tell me whether Audacity versions 2.3.x are compatible with Snow Leopard (OS 10.6.x)? Also, shouldn’t the link be pointing to ‘audacity-macos-2.3.2.dmg’ instead?
If 2.3.2 is not compatible with Snow Leopard, then which is the last version that is?
Incidentally, should anyone suggest v. 2.2.2, I have found a press release about that version https://www.audacityteam.org/audacity-2-2-2-released/, but no links anywhere to download the .dmg file, not even on the ‘Legacy Mac’ page or the ‘Release Notes’ for 2.2.2 https://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Release_Notes_2.2.2 which simply points back to the ‘Legacy Mac’ page.
My system: Mac OS 10.6.8 on Apple MacBook ‘Core 2 Duo’ 2.4 GHz 13" (Black, Early 2008 - MB404LL/A)
Reasons to keep Snow Leopard (for “enquiring minds”): it’s the last Mac OS supporting Rosetta and therefore certain legacy apps – most notably the Eudora e-mail app, in which I have stored tens of thousands of messages in hundreds of folders.
