Cleaning up audio for transcription

Hi, I have been using Audacity for a while now and learned a bit from it. I do transcription of variousr types of audio files, where some persons are far from the microphone and others not and there sometimes really is a lot of background noise in the form of for instance an aircom hum, windows that are open and you hear the street noise, etc.

My go-to is usually - noise reduction, compressor, sometimes I do notch filter too. But in the end many times I go back to the original audio. Is there possibly any pointers you can give me with regard to cleaning up my audio better? I have now downloaded 3.6, but not the musehub as I do not work with music files. Mine is always speech that needs to be transcribed and any and all help would be so much appreciated.
