Change audio pitch in MKV file

Hello there - I know this query incorporates some work not related to Audacity, but I thought experts on here should know whether this is possible or not.

I bought a Blu-ray set which has pitch issues in the audio (it’s too high - it’s been pitch adjusted to offset PAL speedup, but it’s a 24FPS file and this shouldn’t have been done).

Is it possible to fix this at home? I thought if I lifted the file out as an MKV (I’ve been able to do this), and separated the audio I could use Audacity to bring it back down to the proper pitch, then put it back using mkvmerge.

Thanks if anyone can help.

We can’t see what you are doing or have done. What is the exact problem with doing as you describe?

Best software to demux blu-ray - VideoHelp Forum.

To import AC3 or DTS audio into Audacity, you must install FFmpeg.

Videohelp.com would be a more appropriate forum than this for queries about working with Blu-Ray.

You can use the Change Pitch effect. The new pitch should be 24/25= 96% of the original pitch.

But, don’t enter 96%… In the Change Pitch effect, you can enter the Percent Change, which should be -4%.

Thanks for the replies.

Gale - well, I haven’t done anything like this before! I was just asking did ppl think it sounds feasible.

DVDdoug - will this change the length of the audio file? Because if it does even slightly, I’m sunk. It would have to be identical to the original to mux back in with the video.

We can tell you how to use Audacity. We don’t make mkvmerge so we have no responsibility to tell you how to use that.

Yes Change Pitch will change the length slightly due to limitations in its algorithm. Use Sliding Time Scale / Pitch Shift instead. Enter -4% in both Initial and Final Pitch Shift.

Thanks very much Gale - I’ll give it a go!
