Catalina 10.15.3 Audacity 2.4.2

Turntable audio-technica AT-LP12O-USB Direct Drive. Used an older Audacity with my 8 year old iMac for years to play albums through my iMac, to multiple speakers using the Airfoil App. Had all the settings documented complete with screen-captures showing settings so my wife could use as well. Old mac died. New mac when it arrives will run Catalina. Trying system out on my laptop running same Catalina 10.15.3 that will be on the new iMac. Had to update Audacity to latest. Problem: I don’t get the same choices in settings in the new Audacity that I did in the old one. And I can get input from turntable into Audacity but I CAN’T GET ANY OUTPUT. I have “Monitoring” clicked on. In Audacity prefs/recording, I have box checked next to “Software play through”. Under old system I set Mac sound preferences output to USB AUDIO CODEC and also set the Audacity tab which now ONLY can say “Build-in Microphone” (to the right of Core Audio) - I used to set that also to USB AUDIO CODEC. Also the far right tab in Audacity used to let me choose USB AUDIO CODEC but it now is permanently set to “Built-in Output”. Now with the "Software new versions I get NO CHOICE in the “build-in Microphone” setting and the other one on the far right and no matter what I try in both Audacity and in my Mac prefs for sound I get no output…

I can get input from turntable into Audacity

I get NO CHOICE in the “build-in Microphone” setting

How are you getting the audio from the turntable into Audacity if the only setting you have in the Device Toolbar for Recording Device is “Built-in Microphone”?

Connect the turntable to the Mac. Go to Apple menu > System Preferences > Sound > Input. Do you see “USB Audio CODEC” there? If so, select it and play a record. Does the input level meter bounce? If this all works you should be able to choose USB Audio CODEC as the input to Audacity.
