I am new to Audacity and was successful in recording from a family cassette tape yesterday. I saved my recording to my cloud account. I shut down my work for the evening and the next day I opened Audacity program with all of the settings the same as yesterday, but now none of the tapes will record. I even tried to record the original tape I used yesterday and nothing. Any ideas or suggestions?

How is the cassette player connected to the computer?
I have an audio jack connected to the tape player, into a Dynasty Proaudio UA2D unit via a RCA jack. From the Dynasty unit I have square jack out and usb jack on the other end, plugged into the computer. Sorry, I’m a novice with this stuff.
On the 2nd attempt to digitize a new tape, I didn’t change the plug-ins or settings. When I touched the record button, all I got was a straight line for input.
Make sure you’ve selected the USB device as your Recording Device. (Don’t select anything that says “loopback”.)
There is a recording volume slider “hidden” under the recording meters. Make sure it’s turned-up. (The recording volume slider usually doesn’t do anything with USB inputs, but it’s something to check.)
Try Listen To This Device to make sure Windows is getting a signal.
Have you plugged the tape player into something else to make sure an analog signal is coming-out?
