Can't time shift just one of my two tracks [SOLVED]

Hi,

I’m running Audacity 2.1.2 on Windows 7. I’m trying to mix two MP3 mono tracks and when I try to time shift one of them (e.g., left click on waveform and drag the “arrows” icon, both tracks shift. I feel like I’m making a simple mistake but can’t figure out what it is. I even uninstalled and reinstalled Audacity to no avail. Any ideas?

That doesn’t sound right…

Select one of the tracks by clicking just above the MUTE button. That track should turn gray (your mileage may vary).
Click the Time Shift tool (two sideways black arrows).
Click anywhere inside the blue waves for the selected track and push. I’m pretty sure you can’t go to the left (earlier than “now”) and in any event it can be dangerous to try.

I found the cause! Sync Lock Tracks was turned on (I don’t know why) and when I turned it off, I no longer had the issue. Thanks

Thanks for letting us know the happy ending
