Sorry, I am new to Audacity forums.
So I open a .wav file in Audacity and when I select parts to erase, it selects like 20 inches when I actually want to delete a small part.
Sorry, this is the easiest way to explain it.
My Audacity version is 2.0.3 and my system is 64 bit.
And my OS is Windows 7
On the bottom of the Audacity work window, see if “Snap To” is selected. De-select it.

Where is snap-to? How do I get there?
It’s in Selection Toolbar. Click this link to find out: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/faq_editing.html#snap .
If you have hidden Selection Toolbar, View > Toolbars > Reset Toolbars then you can uncheck Snap To.

Yay I can now record sounds and cut unwanted parts. Thanks.
