I just installed and gotten the 7 day trial for Audacity 4. I’m trying to record streaming audio. I’ve tried from several different sources, but with no success. Host is set to WASAPI. For Recording devices my choices are Default, NVIDIA High Definition Audio (loopback), Speakers, and NVIDIA High Definition Audio (loopback) #2.
If I choose default, I get a pop up: No recording device available.
If I choose speaker, I get: Error opening recording device. Error Code -9996 Invalid Device
If I choose either of the loopback options, I don’t get an error. But when I hit the record button, nothing gets recorded. The fwd and rwd buttons go away, the record button changes, but there’s no indication of any actual recording being made. There’s a value shown for Selection, but Duration never changes from 0, nor does the timer at the top of the app window.
there is no 7 day trial, audacity is free. you might have been duped by audio.com into paying for a cloud subscription you don’t need, which you can cancel.
this is sort of expected; if you don’t have an audio stream open, audacity waits until one appears before starting the recording. so you probably have the correct device there.
I assume you are using Windows because you mentioned WASAPI.
I would offer two suggestions:
Forget about Audacity 4 for the foreseeable future, it has tons of missing functionality that Audacity 3 has. Get v3 from here: Audacity 3 downloads
For recording audio playing on the PC, try using Ocenaudio instead. I found it much easier to get it working with various audio devices. Your mileage may vary, of course.
