Can't record - screeching

Hello,

I am using a ReSHow USB Cassette deck. It’s showing in Device manager properly. I’ve follow the instructions and I have looked in this forum for screeching and have not been able to figure out the problem. It seems to be an issue with the device?

When I hit record in Audacity (2.2.2) on a Windows 10 machine i get nothing but screeching. When I try to use sound recorder I get the same thing. Internal microphone works fine.

Any one have any ideas?

I assume you’ve plugged headphones into the cassette player and the sound is OK? Or, can you hear it and does it sound OK before you hit record?

Make sure you’ve selected the USB device as your [u]Recording Device[/u]. (There are ways to create a feedback-loop if you record from “stereo mix” or “loopback”.)
