Can't Load m4a files as I did in 3.X

I use m4a files all the time, and A4 is not accepting them.

Can’t use A4 until I figure this out.

Thank you.

Thanks for the reply.

What is the timeframe for a fix. When will we know it has been done. This is for the Windows version of Audacity 4. I too only use m4a.

Hey @daveextreme2 are you a developer or contributor? If so, I really would love for you to check out my recent post. Funny how the guy that has “the squeaky wheel, gets the grease” gets your reply, but me who is praising 4.0 has no mentions or forwarded to the developers or not even a reply.

Are you a bot? Because you have posted the exact same thing three times on different threads.

@Wrecks0 No I am not, I am a human who now is getting to know Audacity 4 now from previous versions (long time user and fan). Yes, I’ve posted in other “squeeky wheel” posts as I see them getting acknowledged by either experienced users or developers and would like for someone to take the time and the same courtesy for my post. I was under the impression Audacity is Open Source and I gave my suggestion to make it “perfect” IMHO. Please refer to my post titled “Almost perfect, but…” -thank you. -One Love

I’m having the same problem with Audacity 4 neither seeing nor being able to Import m4a files.

“They’re working on it,” but it’s been since January that this problem was reported and still no joy.

The GitHub thread quotes @dozzzzer as saying that users can drag and drop m4a files into Audacity 4 and while that does work with Windows 11 Pro, it’s not a good solution because drag/drop does not preserve the topline file names correctly, while Import normally does for, say, mpg or wav files.

I hope @dozzzzer and the A4 team find a solution to this, as it makes A4 completely unusable from the get-go for me, because importing m4a files with proper naming is critical to my work.

I guess it’s back to good old A3.7.9 until then.

Cheers.
