Can't Install

Forum
I am using a Toshiba Tecra M9 using Windows XP. Audacity software downloads to an exe file. Then will not install.

Error message: Setup unable to execute file
c:program filesaudacity.exe
create process failed; code 14001.
configuration is incorrect.

How do I get Audacity to install?

Thank you

You need to install “Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable”.
See here for details: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/faq_installation_and_plug_ins.html#14001

I presume that you are aware that Windows XP is no longer supported by Microsoft and cannot be considered “secure” (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/end-support-help). If you do not wish to purchase a current version of Windows, you may want to consider upgrading to one of the many varieties (“distributions”) of Linux.

I followed your suggestions. Audacity is now installed and working.

To up grade my Tecra M9 to Windows 7, I think I need to up date hardware first, not sure?
