Can't get mic to work on Audacity

I am really struggling. I have a mic (Scarlett Solo) that is hooked up to Focusrite Scarlett solo 4th Gen, and then into my computer. If I tap the mic or speak, it shows up on the focusrite, but I am unable to get it to record into audacity. Just for the record, I have tried two other mics as well through this set up (Shure SM57 and a carvin). No combo of settings will allow the mic to work in audacity. I updated to 3.7.7 in the hopes it might help, but it didn’t. It worked a week ago. I don’t know what to do.I’ve checked through all the windows 11 settings, according to this forum, and google, and it didn’t help. I tried to follow instructions to reset to defaults, but the three folders specified weren’t in the AppData folder. What should I do???

I’ve tried all possible combinations from “Selecting Your Recording Device” and it is not recording.

Check Audacity is permitted to connect to audio-interface* in Windows … https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/turn-on-app-permissions-for-your-microphone-in-windows

[ * audio interface is not a mic, but could could be connected to a mic ]

Yes, it’s toggled on. Also - Let desktop apps access your microphone (audacity is listed there) is also toggled on.

A couple more things to try -
Try Listen To This Device to make sure Windows is getting a signal. (Windows has to get something before it gets sent to Audacity.)

If appears to be recording but you’re recording silence, Audacity’s recording volume slider is “hidden” under the recording level meters. (The recording volume control might not do anything with a USB connection but check it anyway.)

Or the Focusrite should have come with Ableton Live LIte and Pro Tools Intro+ which you could use instead of Audacity.

It worked a week ago.

Sometimes a Windows update or other application will change the Windows settings.

That wasn’t the issue either, but it did lead me to the place where the mic was disabled. Thank you for your help.
