I have very little experience with Audacity but I have 3.7.8. I am recording voice-only.
Three concerns:
It seems as though EQ/compression can only be applied to recorded audio - not at the time of recording. Is that right?
I have found the EQ and compression settings that I want to use. Effect and Filters/ Filter Curve EQ/Presets and Settings/Factory Presets, and then turning on bass boost, treble boost, and low roloff for speech. They said that each has to be applied individually, which means that we have to go back through all of those steps for each one. Is that true, or is “apply” enough?
I then went to User Presets and saved the settings. When I record something I do a CTRL A, and load the user presets that I had saved. They aren’t applied and I have to do that all over again. (THe compression settings stay, though, no matter what).
Is there a recommended way to be able to call up those saved settings? Thanks.
It could be viewed as an advantage, in a way. If you mess up the EQ during recording, it could be harder to ‘fix’ in post. If you apply EQ in post, you can undo it and try something else.
If your voice-only recordings are not multi-track, you might want to have a look at Ocenaudio too. It’s also free and does real-time previewing much better than Audacity. You can also save presets but I don’t know if you can save combinations of effects.
