Can't discard files on startup

I have 2 unsaved files that show up on startup. I click discard and recover selected but Audacity just hangs. The only way to proceed is to Skip, but the files always show up on reboot.
How do I delete these entries?

There’s a hidden folder …

C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\audacity\AutoSave

Delete the contents, if you don’t want to recover the crashed projects in it.
(Renaming that folder, rather than deleting it, would give you the option of going back).

Sadly I don’t have that folder - and hidden folders are shown.

then audacity just “thinks” there recoverable projects, i.e. a corrupted “audacity.cfg” file.

Again renaming the file, rather than deleting, gives you the option of reverting.
