Cannot remove audio distortions/artifacts of a gunshot sound (of a video game) after increasing sound speed

Hello,

I’ve been working on improving the sound of a specific gunshot from a video game (Soldier of Fortune 2: Double Helix from 2002) for a few months by now. Inititally, I was successful - I increased amplitude, speed (1.25x), modified bass & treble, equalizer and a few other things. Now the gunshot sounds faster, punchier and more satisfactory than it already was in it’s original form. The problems started, when I tried to further increase the sound speed to 1.333x from 1.25x (by doing a 1,066 multiply). The increase in sound speed added artifacts like electrical hissing, hollow bass and noise.

No matter what I did, I couldn’t restore the gunshot to sound like 1.25x (with the only intended difference of being 1,066x faster).

What can I do to achieve that?

I’ve attached the original sound file (_1), the 1.25x & improved sound file (_2), and the best 1.333x version (I managed to achieve) of the 1.25x sound file (_3).

Thanks,

T.S.O.M.
