Cannot Record with Soundcraft Signature 22 MTK

I have a MacBook pro, ver 12.3.1 Monterey, Soundcraft signature 22 MTK, Audacity 3.1.3 and cannot get any recording. I “click to start monitoring” and get no reading. The Audio host is “Core Audio”; the recording and playback devices both show Soundcraft Signature 22MTK; the recording channel is showing 1 MONO recording channel. When I select MacBook Pro as recoding and playback devices Audacity records as designed. I “click to start monitoring” and get good signal and am able to record. I followed the instruction in the FAQ that stated to go to the preferences, then security and privacy, select the privacy tab and check the box in the “Allow the apps below to access your microphone.” The box for Audacity was checked and I did not have to check the box. I checked and unchecked it for good measure. I tried all 24 channels in recording channels and none of them worked. I closed Audacity, did a restart then oped audacity. No record signal in “click to start monitoring”. I tried to record without having the signal in the “click to start monitoring” nothing. It is not the mixer or the configuration. All other DAWs operate as designed. The recording and playback volumes are at 1.00. I also did a complete uninstall and reinstall. What are your recommendations?

As you know, for Windows, you need special drivers and perhaps a special ASIO version of Audacity. But for Mac, this should work out of the box.

I don’t know that this is your issue, but Audacity is not set up to transmit multi-channel I/O, this may be confusing the interface.

Try resetting your playback device to your MacBook Pro. You should be able to set Audacity to 24 input channels from the 22 MTK and record.

If that doesn’t work, try changing Audacity’s project rate to match that of the Soundcraft mixer. I believe their default is 44100. But you could also try 48000.

All were set at 48000 from the beginning.

Tried same result, no signal.

So are you recording 24 tracks, each with no signal?

Not trying to multi-track record. I am only wanting to record one mono track.

So as it turns out, last week I was recording a simple test on a Signature 22 MTK on Windows with a custom version of Audacity. I did not try to record just one channel. I set it for 24, and it created 24 channels for me. Can you reproduce this test on your MacBook ?

I am sure I can. What are the instructions or procedures?

Tried to upload a screen shot, got error message that file is to big.

So, IIRC, all I had to do was set the number of Recording Channels to 24. See: Device ToolbarDevice Toolbar. Playback Device = my headphones. Then press the record button, I let it run all of a few seconds.

See here how to create a screenshot of Audacity: Screenshot - Audacity Manual

We got it. I had my mic plugged into channel 3 on the Soundcraft, when I plugged it into channel 1 I got a signal. Thanks.

Details…
