Cannot hear usb input during recording

I am using a Mac mini running OS Sonoma and the latest Audacity (2.4.2). When recording a tape using the usb port of the Mac mini the tape content is recorded correctly, but I can not hear the recorded input (sound) over the speakers of my Mac mini. Using GageBand I can hear the sound during the recording process.

Turn ON Audible input monitoring.
