Can not save project or export - SOLVED

Windows 10. Have the most recent version of audacity.

Have a new project. Tried saving the project or “save as” new project with no success. Tried exporting project with no success.

Same error message:

“File not found.
Check the file name and try again”

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The current version is Audacity 2.4.2. Is that the version that you have? (Look in “Help menu > About Audacity”)

“File menu > Save Project > Save Project…”

You can get that error if you use punctuation marks in your filename. Piano/Music may look like a normal filename to you, but to the computer, that looks like you want to save a file in a folder called Music. If a Music folder doesn’t exist, the export or save will fail.

If you need dates, use the ISO version. Today is 2021-01-02. No slash marks.

You may use -dash- and underscore characters.

Windows has an additional restriction. You can’t use any of the legacy names, either: COM, LPT, etc.

Yes, I have the latest version. I downloaded it today.

I don’t have any punctuation in my file name. It’s just “proposal”.

Any other ideas?

Got it! It was Windows Defender.
