Any help please. Error opening recording device - Error code: -9996 invalid device

Been happy playing with Audacity for a few weeks and now today getting the above error. No change in PC hardware or software. Running Windows 7 pro and Audacity 3.1.3. I have uninstalled the package and reinstalled but no change. Any help welcome please. Ken in the UK

I have solved my 9996 error - please see the photo at the link below (if I am allowed to use a link)
It took a few hours BUT all working
