Can I export to .m4r

Three things;

I’m brand new to Audacity Forums and I did look for topic matter regarding exporting to .m4r and couldn’t find anything in simple terms or for that matter anything at all.

I want to know if there is a way to add the .m4r extension to the Audacity’s export menu ‘Save as type’ drop down menu and if not, is there another way to export a selection to .m4r?

I’m using Audacity 2.0.6 on Windows 7.

Thanks,
David

As far as I’m aware, “.m4r” is the same format as M4A and AAC, just with a different file extension.
Unfortunately there is currently a bug in Audacity’s AAC export, so better to export from Audacity as a WAV file, then use another program (such as iTunes) to convert the WAV to AAC (and then rename it with a “.m4r” file extension).

This is just if you prefer to use Audacity to doing the conversion in iTunes.

The only major bug I know is that you can’t change the export quality when you export using “M4A (AAC) Files (FFmpeg).”

You can set the export bit rate if you export using “Custom FFmpeg export” (press “Options…” , choose “mp4” format and “libvo_aacenc” encoding).

For either “M4A (AAC) Files (FFmpeg)” or “Custom FFmpeg export”, just add “.m4r” (without quotes) to the end of the file name you choose when exporting.

The Manual does say that you can add .m4r extension: Audacity Manual.
