With Audacity, yes. Audacity is an open source audio recording and editing program.
Not “here”. This is a user-to-user Audacity discussion forum. ![]()
I planned to source the songs from you tube
Audacity can record whatever is playing on your computer but it is a copyright violation. …Even if you own the CDs it will be a copyright violation to re-publish or re-distribute the music. For personal use you won’t get busted. ![]()
You MAY be able to upload copyrighted music to YouTube and the copyright holder gets paid (from advertisements) when someone watches your video. … But it’s a bit “fuzzy” to me.
Thanks for replying i will try and see ! Am hoping i can play a song off you tube record it on audacity and make a radio show . At least i will know fairly Quickly if it works
If the radio station had a ppl licence we should be covered
Thanks again
Russ
100%.
And a “real” broadcast station should also have a music library… The radio station should also have someone who can help you.
Recording Desktop Audio (what’s playing on the computer)
Recording Your Voice With A Microphone
If you want to mix two or more existing files (mixing your voice over background music, etc.), Import the 2nd file (don’t Open).
Also note that mixing is done by summation so you have to watch your levels to prevent clipping (distortion) in the mix.
At least i will know fairly Quickly if it works
There is a learning curve, especially if you are new to audio recording and editing. ![]()
You didn’t say what kind of radio show you want to do other than where you’d source music. Will there be talking or just music?
You could do that but it’s very time-consuming indeed. If you do want to go ahead and get stuff from YouTube download with Clipgrab or similar rather than record in real-time.
I have no real desire to create a radio station really but I did get fascinated by the process of online broadcasting. So, I decided to see if I could actually pull it off.
I’d been playing with a great free DJ program called MIxxx which lets you make playlists, record sets for later broadcasting and broadcast to the internet. Next was the broadcasting bit. I used some free software called Icecast to do that bit. It ran great on a regular PC but also on a little Raspberry Pi Zero 2W. Not content with that I also tried broadcasting via Caster FM and that works great too. You choose an URL and broadcast to that. The free plan gives you 100 free listening slots. The blurb says 400 BUT you only get 400 once you have 100 subscribers - easier said than done.
Of course, all of this involves some new skills but it’s not too difficult once you have grasped the concepts.
Good luck with it.
