Can cut and paste, but not copy and paste

I am using Windows 10 and Audacity 2.1.1, and I downloaded the .exe. I’m sure this question has been asked and answered but I am unable to find it. Until now I have only removed unwanted audio and cut works fine. Now I am trying to extend a song by copying a section and having it repeat as soon as it ends. I can cut and paste it directly back where it was but when I try to paste nothing happens. I have tried just about everything, stopping and pausing the track, unselecting the section after it is copied to the clipboard then moving the cursor to where I would like it copied, and making sure “Editing a clip can move other clips” is checked in preferences. Nothing seems to work, I can remove and replace audio but I am having no luck extending the track. Please halp, thanks in advance and I do apologize if this question has already been answered.

“Pausing” will not work. Playback must be Stopped. If you are “stopping” by “pausing”, then that’s where it’s going wrong. Click the Stop button (or use spacebar to stop), then try copy and paste.

How are you doing “copy / paste” ? Are you using the Edit menu commands or Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V ?

Yes i stopped using the yellow stop button. I only added pause to show I have tried everything I can think of. I tried copy/paste from keyboard shortcuts, the toolbar at the top and from the edit menu. I havent looked deeply into the FAQ but i will investigate.

But if you can cut, the data is on Audacity’s clipboard. You can Edit > Undo the cut, then click to place the cursor where you want to paste. Where are you trying to paste, exactly - can you show us a screenshot?

If you want to paste at the end of the selection you copied, you can use Effect > Repeat… instead.
