Bug Report - Deselecting Solo button unmutes all tracks in project (Audacity 2.4.2)

I just upgraded from version 2.1.1 to 2.4.2 and noticed a bug right away that didn’t exist in the older version. I’ve checked the known bug list and didn’t find this one, and it’s kind of annoying for multi-track recording. Deselecting the Solo button on any track unmutes all tracks in project.

Steps to reproduce:

  • Create and mute multiple tracks
  • Select one track and solo it
  • Deselect the solo button

Result:

  • All tracks are removed from mute, and the mute button selections are cleared.

Expectation:

  • Only the tracks that did not have the mute button selected are unmuted (mute button selections are not cleared).

Build:
Audacity 2.4.2 (downloaded from https://www.audacityteam.org/download/windows/ using the installer)

OS:
Windows 10 2004 (190401.804)

Thanks for this great software, and sorry to complain! Please let me know if you need further information.

Not a bug, just a different default behaviour.
Yes it’s inconvenient for multi-track projects, but the majority of users only ever work on single track projects (hence the new default).

For multi-track projects there’s another option which I think you will find much better:
“Edit menu > Preferences > Tracks Behaviors > Solo Button => Multi-track”

(see: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/tracks_behaviors_preferences.html)

Thank you! That has solved a real annoyance for me.
