Bug Report: Bad for New Users!

Move this if it’s the wrong place. On the Audacity website, new users are likely to find FAQ:Recording - How To’s to find how to set up their recordings to avoid clipping. However, if they are using Chrome or Firefox, they may run into this:

This appear to be an error where a Python en dash ended up in front of the 6 in -6 dB. This is going to be very confusing to people attempting to troubleshoot this, because if they skip the garbled mess in front of dB and try to match it up with a 0.5 linear scale projection, they’ll end up around -30 dB instead.

Thanks for the report. I’ve fixed it in the “alpha manual” so the fix should appear if/when the manual is next updated. (I’m not sure what the future is for the manual. I think it’s being abandoned in favour of the new Help Center.)
