[Bug] Audio recording dropouts

I am on Mac on the latest version of Audacity. If I record a single track, it works fine. But then, if I add a second track and record on it, it stutters a ton and also corrupts the first track. This forces me to create a new Audacity project every time I want to record a new track.

Similar problem here. Whenever there is more than one track there are severe dropouts in recording, like several per second. If I disable overdubbing (Transport>Transport options>Overdub on/off) that helps, but then I can’t work with more than one track per project, or overdub.
A warning dialog box suggests that I’m running other applications, or that I’m recording to a slow external drive, but neither of these diagnoses is true. Anyone else run into this?

Thanks for pointing this out. I’ve also been experiencing similar audio dropouts while recording in Audacity. It usually happens randomly, and the resulting track has tiny gaps of silence that make it hard to work with. I’ve checked buffer sizes, audio settings, and even tested with different drivers, but the issue still shows up. It seems like this might be a bug in how Audacity handles continuous recording or system resources. Hopefully, the team can look into this and provide a fix, since it affects basic recording reliability.

I wonder if Audacity is having trouble updating the screen under these circumstances. Perhaps a way to test that would be to set the resolution of the screen very small, like 800 by 600, and try recording a second track to see if the problem persists.
