Hi All,
I am totally new to Audacity (I am using version 2.1.3 on Windows 7) and wondered if I could get some help with beat matching. I want to run a dance beat over the track Need You Tonight by INXS for a mix I’m making for a mate.
The dance beat is 126 BPM and NYT is 109 BPM
I tried to change tempo so they’re both 120 BPM but they don’t quite match - it’s then that I hit problems…
It’s really complicated to tweak the tempos again as I can’t tell if I need to reset and try again or can change it again from the new tempo.
Is there a simple way of beat matching or at least a system way of finding out the BPM of a tune - it seems to rely on knowing the exact beat and changing it by a certain percentage.
Can’t find anything really helpful online so wondered if anyone here could help

That can be a very tricky thing to do… Sometimes the beat isn’t perfectly-constant throughout the song and that can make it even harder. Usually, you can get it close-enough to beat-match a crossfade between songs and in that case it doesn’t have to be a perfect match.
If you want to add drum beats, it’s probably best to get a little MIDI keyboard (or a MIDI drum) and play the drum sounds in time with the music. (You’ll may need some different software to generate drum sounds from a keyboard… Audacity doesn’t support MIDI.)

It’s probably best to un-do and start-over until you get it dialed-in.

There are tools/algorithms but the human brain is usually best, so you can just count the beats over 30 or 60 seconds. It’s usually easier to count - 1,2,3,4 - 2,2,3,4 - 3,2,3,4, etc.
Thanks for the reply - I think you’re right - having toyed a little more with it I’m not convinced I can make it work. There are probably some more advanced (and not free tools) for this type of thing - a lot of people talk about Ableton - but I’ll stick with adding drum loops in for start and end of tune and save myself having a nervous breakdown over it!
