Automatic silence finder + name finder

Dear all,

First of all, please let me tell that I love Audacity, this software’s doing great job !

I often record stream music, for example when I’m listening to Deezer.
Recording goes well, then I run Analyze → Silence finder before doing Multiple Export and finally, with MusicBrainz Picard, I try to automatically recognize and rename my audio files into proper actual track names.

Problems are :

  1. Silence finder is not that convenient as it often “finds” silence that are simply pauses inside a track. Increasing the delay parameter won’t help, as the actual pause between two tracks is often no more than one second.
  2. In the end several tracks are splited into multiples bribes and then MusicBrainz can’t recognize anything.

I’d like to know if some of you have more experience about this : how do YOU do, practically ?
Is there any way to do a whole “find silence and analyze tracks” in the same time ? This way, Audacity could get rid of false silences by recognizing tracks inside the one big audio record.

Many thanks

I’m hoping to be able to make some improvements to Sound Finder / Silence Finder, but song recognition is not part of what I have planned.

MusicBrainz Picard uses a number of characteristics to identify songs, one of which is the track length. Unless you have extracted (ripped) the tracks one track at a time from the CD it is unlikely that any automated splitting, or manual splitting, will make the splits close enough to the right place for the length of the track to be recognised by MusicBrainz Picard.
