audio unit effects

Audacity will not load Apple Audio Unit effects after upgrading from 2.0.6 to 2.1.0. Mac 10.5.8
It preforms a scan but they do not show up in the effects menu

Thanks

Thanks for the report. However please double-check the Effect Menu because by default the Apple Audio Units will now be listed further down the menu as AU, without “Apple” in front.

Please let us know.

Gale

Thanks Gale,

I doubled checked and there’s no AU’s listed. They show up in the scan and the boxes are checked but they are not listed in the effects menu.

As you have recently updated from 2.0.6 to 2.1.0, please recheck that it actually is 2.1.0 that is running by looking in “Help > About Audacity”.
Also, check (or re-check) that AU type effects are enabled in the Effect preferences (Edit > Preferences > Effects) http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/effects_preferences.html

Also, try setting (in the Effect preferences) the sort order to “Grouped by Type”.

Thanks Steve,

It is 2.1.0
audio units are enabled and effects are grouped by type , still not visable.

Can you open Finder, type

~/Library/Application Support/audacity/

then attach the file “pluginregistry.cfg” from that folder. Please see here for how to attach files: https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/how-to-attach-files-to-forum-posts/24026/1

Gale

Thank’s Gale
pluginregistry.txt (103 KB)

Yes the pluginregistry.cfg file shows that Audacity cannot enable those Audio Units. Changes were made to Audio Units support in 2.1.0 so that AU’s would load in Audacity running on Yosemite.

Do you have an Intel or PPC processor https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201580?

Gale

Thanks, Gale

It’s a 1GHz PowerPC G4

How do i completely remove version 2.1.0 so I can install an earlier version?

I have asked the developer who made the changes for Audio Units but I have not heard back yet.

Drag the Audacity folder where your Audacity.app is to Trash.

If you want to completely remove your old settings, open ~/Library/Application Support and delete the “audacity” folder.

At the moment you can still obtain 2.0.6 from Audacity download latest version.

We probably won’t be making many more releases for PPC, even if Audio Units can be made to work in 2.1.0 on PPC Mac.

Gale

Thanks, Gale

If you hear anything else on this issue, could you please post here. I would appreciate it very much

Starting with Audacity 2.1.0, Audio Units won’t load on PPC Macs. This change was needed to make Audio Units load on Yosemite.

The final version of Audacity that supports Audio Units on PPC Mac is 2.0.6:
http://www.oldfoss.com/Audacity/download/audacity-macosx-ub-2.0.6.dmg
http://www.oldfoss.com/Audacity/download/audacity-macosx-ub-2.0.6.zip .

Audacity 2.1.1 will be the final version to support PPC Macs (without support for Audio Units, as indicated).

Gale

Thanks So Much Gale.

I recently purchased a mid 2010 IMac running Mavericks and am running Audacity 2.1.0 with just a few very minor glitches. I have redrawn all my presets and have added them to Audacity and so far have rebuilt about 1/3 of my library. I’m not a professional user. Over the past 15 years I have been a volunteer for several social and church groups in my area and have been in charge of providing music for events such as children’s parties, adult dances, and exercise program etc. I believe the new options in Audacity will make it much easier to make adjustments to account for acoustics at the different venues we use. I really like what the team has done with Audio Unit Effects and the real time adjustments has brought this program to a new level. I won’t go so far as to say Audacity 2.1.0 is the only audio tool you will ever need, however, I believe every “audio tool box” should have it.

Thanks

Thanks for your feedback, djjarge. I’m glad you were able to obtain a new machine.

Sorry it was not announced that Audio Units did not work in 2.1.0 on PPC Macs. None of us has PPC Macs any longer, so we did not know. We were not expecting it, but it was always a possibility.
